Behind the Scene and other Major Plot Points
“He’s out of the picture”
When he is asked about the whereabouts of Church (portrayed by Bruce Willis in the two previous films), Max Drummer (Harrison Ford) answers that “He’s out of the picture”. This is an in-joke about the fact that Willis’s character was written out of the film and replaced with Ford’s character
In addition to his role of main villain
Mel Gibson was offered the chance to direct the film but he declined
“Bridegroom of Death”
In one scene Antonio Banderas‘s character sings “El novio de la muerte” (“Bridegroom of Death”). That song is the official hymn of the Spanish Legion, an elite unit of the spanish army. In real life Banderas was made honorary member of that military unit in 2013.
“Get to the chopper” & “I lied”
Watched the movie tonight and I was waiting for “get to da choppah” line from predator.
First he told Harrison ford to look out for the choppah, then I thought nah he’s not gonna say it, but later out of the blue, let’s all get in to da choppah!! That was the funniest moment in the whole movie
While trying to save Doc from the train, Christmas calls him a maniac. This is a slight reference to what Stallone’s character, John Spartan, calls Snipes’s character, Simon Phoenix, in the movie “Demolition Man”.
Australian Background of the Main Villain
After Mel Gibson was cast as Conrad Stonebanks, Aussie director Patrick Hughessuggested the character have an Australian background. Although Gibson was born in the USA, he spent most of his youth.
Jason Statham has the last line at the end of every Expendable film
Mel Gibson‘s character …
…is a former SASR (Special Air Sevice Regiment) operative. This is a nod to Attack Force Z (1981), one of Gibson’s early lead roles.
After the release of the film, Sylvester Stallone admitted the PG-13 was a mistake, saying “I believe it was a horrible miscalculation on everyone’s part in trying to reach a wider audience, but in doing such, diminish the violence that the audience expects. I’m quite certain it won’t happen again”
“I can do that.”
When watching Thorn (Glen Powell) rock climbing, Barney (Sylvester Stallone) says, “I can do that.” This is a nod to his 1993 film, Cliffhanger.
A free video game titled The Expendabros was created to promote the release of the movie. It was commissioned by Lionsgate and developed by Free Lives Games – the developers of BroForce
Wesley Snipes’ character
Wesley Snipes’ character is showed to be proficient with knives. This may be a nod to his role as Blades.
Anyone know what site is? It’s like an entire deserted industrial complex…a huge one. There was a sign at the start but didn’t understand it.
Expendables 4 should be all same cast BUT AS SUPERHEROES

RT/Meta Critic Review
Its most interesting lines are on the foreheads of its stars, more than ever imbuing the film with the kind of world weariness that can’t be faked. (Click here to see)
