Reference to the game
In the beginning of the film, when Red asks the two birds what they rate the birthday cake he delivers, he asks how many stars out of three. This is a reference to the game; the highest score you can get is three stars.
Unlike the characters featured in the games, the animation team decided to give the film counterparts animated arms from the shape of the wings and legs to further animate the performances.
The Angry Birds Game
Since it was released in 2009, the Angry Birds game has been downloaded more than 3 billion times across all versions and platforms of mobile devices.
The ticket for the concert hosted by..
the pigs on Bird Island are tickets for either “Daft Piggy” or “Steve Aoinky,” a reference to the popular electronic DJs Steve Aoki & Daft Punk. The pigs even wear similar outfits to those bands. Also, on Piggy Island there’s a Poster that references Calvin Klein as “Calvin Swine”.
..for animation directors Clay Kaytis and Fergal Reilly.
Reference to Star Wars movie
At the end when Chuck tells Red “Thank goodness you did not turn to the pork side” – a reference to Angry Birds Star Wars.
The film released 10 years..
after Sony Animation’s first film, being Open Season (2006) in 2006.
Traditional Animation also used
First Sony Animation Film that uses Computer Animation and Traditional Animation, as seen during Chuck and Bomb’s imaginings of Mighty Eagle (which are traditionally animated) when Red insists to them into seeing him to ask what the Pigs have come for.
In the game, Mighty Eagle comes in when you throw a can of tuna, but in the movie, he comes in when he sees all the eggs being stolen. The eggs are all tied together making it look like one big egg.
